        Public Fintech Initiatives & Regulations

        Invest Stockholm, Drottninggatan 33, Stockholm

As ministries, departments, and institutions have been created mostly before the internet-era, Fintech and its regulation had to face a silos-mentality across many legislators. In the Public Fintech Initiatives & Regulations track, we are exploring both the public initiatives as well as the critical changes that will impact the entire ecosystem and share potential solution strategies of how to keep track and often even embrace new regulation. We will dig into e-currencies and especially the e-krona that the Swedish Central Bank’s is working on.

The Usage of Regulatory Technology (RegTech) goes way beyond streamlining risk and compliance work, it allows both Startups and Incumbents to create a smooth user experience while verifying Identity Documents or Processing Transactions. Just think about the ease of usage of Bank ID or Swish, versus all of the complexity in their backend. In the RegTech track, we will be exploring the ‘future in progress’ while merging compliance, regulations with technology. Due to its interconnectivity with LegalTech, we will be exploring those developments, future and challenges together while displaying tools, ideas and focus areas for the upcoming year.

The use of Regtech is not only for traditional financial institutions, start up, scale up and challengers are making use of new technologies to create more streamlined risk and compliance work. But the Regtech space shares a border with Legaltech and the two technologies are developing side by side, how different are they really and where do they overlap? We will look at what technologies the next generation of Regtech and Legaltech companies will use and how these technologies are shifting the focus of users in organizations.

                          Introduction to the session

                          15:30 - 15:50

With the increasing complexity of Fintech companies and attention by both policymakers and law enforcement, there’s an urgent need for companies to focus their efforts on being aware of their AML controls and potential third-party risk exposure. Not only has the Financial Action Taskforce, the global standard-setting body, put Fintechs and cryptos in particular, in focus but there’s a growing awareness, whether real or not, that this sector exposes the financial sector with risks related to fraud and money laundering. The challenge for both the private and public sector is to move beyond the siloed approach and truly embrace a more collaborative framework to ensure that both innovations are encouraged while protecting the integrity of the Fintech sector. Both the G20 and the EU Taskforce on AML has put a spotlight on these issues which will require not only awareness of the business implications but also to educate law enforcement and policymakers. Unlike banks who have more resources at their disposal, Fintech needs to balance an innovative approach while pursuing a proportional approach to prudent risk management.

As most Fintechs incorporate technological solutions like machine learning that result in intelligent flagging of suspicious transactions, there is always a need to discover smart and out-of-the-box ways to combat different types of criminal tricks. The goal of the panel is to share the best experience of how to spot fraud waves, limit them, educate and protect the consumer while taking out sometimes unusual but effective steps to stop the criminal appetite.

                            17:00 - 17:20

With 400+ Fintech companies in Stockholm and an increasing amount of digital transactions, there has been a need for stepping out of the current ‘isolated way of working’. As today communication is mostly limited to filling- and receiving- of police reports, more comprehensive cooperation between Fintechs and Law Enforcement might be a clear step forward. Despite a significant amount of goodwill, there have been organisational-limits on both sides. This panel focuses on potential future scenarios, current obstacles and pathways to possibly reach the goal to enhance the protection of millions of Fintech users. Every day.

                                      16:30 - 16:45

Panel: Bulls or bears? What could we expect of the coming crypto decade?

                                        16:45 - 17:20

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies saw massive gains back in 2017, and when the hype finally faded, tons of interesting crypto projects all over the world had already been initiated. What is the current status of the crypto and blockchain industry as of today, and what should we expect from the coming decade? Will we all pay for things with bitcoin in 10 years?

During this fireside chat, we’ll talk to some of the most knowledgeable names in the nordic crypto industry, to help you orient this new and often quite confusing financial ecosystem.

At the end of the session, the audience will be invited to ask questions which will be answered by the panelists.

To get to the bottom of the Bitcoin rabbit hole we need to ask ourselves the most basic question about economics – what is value?

We see P27 replacing much of Clearing and Riksbanken is planning to implement TIPS for realtime settlement. On top, if this PSD2 is going to be rolled out. In the next 2-3 years, we are facing a totally new market with instant payment between account and probably cross currencies. What will this mean for consumers, corporations, banks, payment providers, central bank and authorities?

Diggecard is a Norwegian Fintech delivering Gift card as a Service. The company was started back in 2014, when the founders realized that the gift card industry was still stuck in the 90’s in with paper and plastic.

After 5 years of developing a world leading digital platform for gift card, and after changing business model from a B2C marketplace over to a B2B SAAS solution, the company was still fighting the same battle as other Nordic Fintech’s with global ambition. How can we scale our business outside home market?

Then an exit opportunity came along.

In June of 2019, Monerium became the first company authorized to issue e-money on blockchains. The company has since announced the first use cases, involving B2B transactions in partnership with Tradeshift, and also presented at the IMF and the WEF. The journey from start-up to a pioneering licensed institution started with a report completed by the company in 2016, Blockchains and the future of finance.

As laid out in the report, mainstream assets will be tokenized and transact through smart contracts on distributed ledgers. Monerium is helping bring that future about by issuing proven programmable digital form of fiat on blockchains, already supporting USD, EUR, GBP, and ISK.

The next Revolution of Intangible Asset Financing

The fourth industrial revolution is an intangible revolution with a growing creative sector at its core, fueled by a race for ground-breaking innovation.

Sweden is a front-runner economy in the digitalization of the music industry, and is home to some of the world’s most successful songwriters. While music revenues are soaring, for many artists, financing is a struggle because it can take a long time to create an overnight hit.

The next revolution of intangible asset financing helps artists turn their songs into cash faster on a marketplace for investments into songs’ future royalty streams. Investors stand a chance to profit from trading, just like on the stock exchange.
