Sebnem Erener is a Managing Legal Counsel at Klarna Bank – also part of Klarna’s Policy and Government Affairs team. Her work is at the intersection of law, technology and policy, navigating the complex and rapidly evolving regulatory landscape and fintech. She speaks about responsible lending practices and innovation, consumer credit regulations, EU AI Act, Trustworthy/Ethical AI, embedded finance, electronic identification (eIDAS). Sebnem made it her professional focus to promote ethical and responsible use of technology. In 2023, she co-founded the Ethical AI Initiative in Stockholm, Sweden promoting responsible governance of AI. Sebnem is a trained negotiator (London School of Economics), and an ISO 27001 implementer. She gives guest lectures at Lund University’s business law and human rights law programmes on digitalisation, surveillance, and Trust Services. Earlier in her career, she co-founded an NGO in London, UK and ran strategic litigation and advocacy at the European Court of Human Rights and the UN. In 2014, Sebnem worked at the United Nation OHCHR in Geneva, Switzerland.
